** News ** PBCE Family Night at JJ Muggs Stadium Grill to Benefit Twisty Pines Playground
Future and current fundraising activities for the
June 2008 **Playground Fundraiser ** ** Casino Party a Huge Success! ** Neighbors from all over Palm Beach Country Estates arrived at Steven and Sheri Murray’s home on June 7 for a casino party where more than $3,494.00 was raised for Twisty Pines Playground. During solicitation for the Casino Night we also received one brick order and three component orders, along with a few donor board donations. If you add those, the grand total comes to $6,344.00! More than 70 tickets were sold to this kick-off fundraising event. With first vice-president Kevin Baker at the Roulette table, Joan and Bill Bolds dealing the Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and Arie Strobel, Bill Meyers and Adam Morrison heading up the blackjack tables, neighbors and friends had plenty of fun spending play money. Twenty-eight raffle items kept those who didn’t want to play the games entertained as they cashed in their fake money for piles of raffle tickets. Holly and Adam Morrison had such success with raffles that the crowd booed in envy when they won yet another prize! Silent auction tables kept neighbors busy. Daniela Russell fought to buy a huge basket filled with princess dress up costumes, while a Twisty Pines tote bag filled with four towels and four Rapids tickets was the hottest item of the night! Neighbors had such fun, that they stayed well past the 11 o’clock scheduled end time. Everyone hopes that another casino party will occur this October. Thank you Steve and Sheri! ** More Components Purchased ** Have you taken a look at www.twistypinesplayground.org lately? If you have, you will have noticed that the list of donors is increasing dramatically. Just recently Andrea Osborn of Osborn appraisals donated the $250 Crow’s Nest for the playground, Applegate Interiors, Inc. donated the third section of park perimeter fencing for $2500, and Linda Koehler donated the $850 sandbox with benches for the playground. Thank you neighbors! Don’t forget that your employer might match your donation. ** Park Cleanup/Work Day ** Clearing of the future Palm Beach Country Estates Community Park is continuing. There was an incredible turnout of volunteers at the September and December cleanup days. Groups from the Boy Scouts led by Tim Brown and students from Jupiter and Dwyer High Schools joined the many families that showed up, while getting credit for volunteer hours. A special thanks to Jack McGriff from Native Landscape & Maintenance and Mark Estavanik from AAA-Plus who brought their Bobcats. ** Areca Palms Planted** An eager team of volunteers showed up on Saturday, June 14 to help plant areca palms on the southern side of the park site. Despite the early morning thunderstorms and steady rain, neighbors planted the palms in about two hours. The planting was another success, as new friends of the playground showed up to help out. Thank you to Bob Berman for donating the arecas, and to Tim Brown for organizing the planting. Please give a special thank you to your neighbors Craig and Trevor Pool, Kim Kasper, the Shurtz family, Richard Koehn, and Michael Rickard for their extra help. Also, a big thank you to Jimmy Specks for creating the berm for the palms with his bobcat and to Tim Whelan of Growers' Choice for finding us the best possible price for the arecas. Next time you drive up 69th, take an extra glance at the beautiful arecas. ** Wanted ** Machines, large and small to help with brush and dead tree and stump removal. Bob Cats, front-end loaders and back-hoes needed. This is a great way to get your company's name out there. Call Tim Brown at 561-676-5527 if you would like to help. ** Sponsors Needed for Park Fence ** We are looking for one more sponsor at $2,500 to pay for the last section of fence around the Community Park. The sponsors will get a plaque placed in their name on the fence at a clearly visible entrance into the park. The fence will be a galvanized high quality fence covered in black vinyl for durability. Anyone interested should contact the Landowners Board, or a Park Committee member for information. This is a great way to be visibly acknowledged for your support of the community park being built in Palm Beach Country Estates. Donations to the park and playground can be made out to Twisty Pines Playground Foundation and mailed to: Twisty Pines Playground Foundation, C/O Donald Ross Land Owners Assoc., PO Box 30638, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33420. ** Playground Build Date ** The build date is scheduled for Feb 25th - March 1st 2009. We wanted to do the build in the cool Fall/Winter months and avoid hurricane season. The park is shaping up nicely and should be ready in plenty of time for the build. ** Committee members and volunteers needed ** There are still a lot of opportunities to help out in the organization process. We could use all the help we can get. Here is the list of the committees and contacts. If you or anyone you know might have an interest in any of these committees, please let us know.
*** June 2008 *** *** Park/Playground Committee Letter *** Neighbors and friends, For those of you who are new to the community, we have contracted with Leathers & Associates, a design firm that specializes in community built playgrounds. It was this company that helped the people of Jupiter plan and build Imagination Station. They did the same at Bryant Park in Lake Worth, Science Center in Boca, and Tiger Shark Cove in Wellington. “Community-built” is an interactive process that involves the local community in the design, organization and construction of projects. We encourage residents of all skill levels and ages to come join in. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will bring our community together for the equivalent of a modern day barn raising. We are going to accomplish this in two phases. First create the park, then build the playground. Ground breaking has begun on the park. We have started to clear the vines, brazilian pepper and some of the palmettos. We will be moving the oak trees from the front entrance to the park before the Jog Road extension construction eliminates our front entrance. The road construction is due to start at the end of 2008. We also need 12-20 volunteers NOW for the playground steering committee. Each person on the steering committee will be a chairman or co-chairman in charge of a particular area, such as lining up donated materials, providing childcare or finding volunteers. You do not need to be skilled at carpentry or construction to help build the playground. We need many, many volunteers. There are a variety tasks that must be done. If you can rake or sand wood, there is a job for you! There is something for everyone of every ability. Some of the jobs which need to be filled are: Volunteer Table - Staff our Volunteer table and help volunteers sign in As they say on the Leathers website, the community-built experience is greater than the sum of its parts. Volunteers working together over several days make connections that wouldn’t normally occur. New friendships begin that will last a lifetime. People will have a new sense of commitment to each other and to the community. Community-built projects inspire everyone who participates with a sense of ownership, so much so that they become a focus of community life. People describe them as the experience of a lifetime. Families who helped build will return for picnics and bring out-of-town guests to show them what the community accomplished together. And this first community project is often just the beginning. If you would like to help with the Community Park Clean-up/Work day call Tim Brown at 561-676-5527 or if you would like to volunteer for a Steering Committee or for further information call Chris Reinhardt at 561-743-8725 or email at reinharm@bellsouth.net.
